Catholics petition Pope to tell Obama and Congress to defend Marriage, Life, Religion and …?

Lay Catholic Logo

A Catholic petition is circulating, asking Pope Francis to tell Barack Obama and Congress to defend Marriage, Life, the free exercise of religion and the poor (from the damaging policies based on “man-made climate change theory.”)

This petition also brings up several additional important points that we highlighted in red.

You can sign the petition HERE.  (We recommend signing it.)

Read the petition letter below from Catholics for America:

Your Holiness,
We are under attack by powerful organizations and politicians in the United States of America. Organizations and politicians who have distorted in public the true meanings of Marriage, Life and Freedom of Religion.

We humbly ask that when you visit President Obama on September 23, 2015 and address the U.S. Congress on September 24, 2015 that you implore each to:

  1. Uphold and recodify in law, Marriage as the union of a man and a woman.
  2. Defend the Life of the unborn child from death and dismemberment, sale of his/her body parts, defend all persons from “legalized” euthanasia and rescue our Catholic, Orthodox, Protestant and Yazidi brothers and sisters from the horrors of ISIS.
  3. Uphold and recodify in law, the Free Exercise of Religion for their citizens.
  4. Defend the Poor from damaging policies based on “man-made climate change theory” that for a decade, have raised the costs on products from automobiles to food to washing machines. These policies have put more products and services even further out of reach of the Poor. These same policies also have made it more difficult or impossible for many who have a higher income to be charitable to the Poor.

Your Holiness, our president and our politicians, (many of them dissenting Catholics on Marriage, Life and the Free Exercise of Religion) need to hear you on these moral issues. Catholics in the United States need and want to hear you and many non-Catholic Christians in the U.S. want to hear you on these issues.

We pray you will address these issues and that this message finds you well and in good health.

Be assured that you are in our prayers.

Sign the Petition Asking Pope Francis to admonish President Obama for persecuting the ‘Little Sisters of the Poor’

Sr. Mary Bernard LSP

Sign this important petition from Catholics for America TODAY by clicking on the link at the bottom.  Pope Francis and Barack Obama meet tomorrow.  So, time is of the essence.  The following post is entitled Petition: Ask His Holiness, Pope Francis to admonish President Obama for persecuting Catholic groups such as the ‘Little Sisters of the Poor’ below:

Catholics for America

Friends, below is a petition letter to Pope Francis that we hope you will sign.  We believe it is important that the Holy Father hear from his flock in America about our concerns as Catholic lay persons especially in grave matters.

Your Holiness,

President Obama is trying to force Catholic groups in the U.S. such as the ‘Little Sisters of the Poor’ to abandon their Catholic conscience and pay for services inconsistent with life and Catholic Church teaching.

President Obama is doing this through his unjust law popularly known by him as ‘ObamaCare’ and one of its directives known as the ‘HHS mandate.’

When President Obama meets with you on March 27, 2014, I humbly ask in the spirit of Matthew’s Gospel that you admonish him for his persecution of Catholic persons, businesses and others of good will who are suffering under his unjust law.

Also, in solidarity with my Middle Eastern Christian brothers and sisters and others of good will, I ask that you admonish President Obama for his support of their political persecutors.

God bless you and be assured of my prayers.

Pope Francis didn’t call capitalism “unfettered” or “a new tyranny:” it was created by a journalist

Pope-Francis-at-St.-Peters-Square

It wasn’t Pope Francis who called capitalism “unfettered” or “a new tyranny.”  It was Reuters journalist Naomi O’Leary.  Miss O’Leary induced this creation into the opening line of her November 26, 2013 story about Evangelii Gaudium.

Read about it and more from the original story from Catholics for America below:

Catholics for America

Pope Francis did not write the word ‘capitalism’ nor did he call capitalism “a new tyranny” in his November 24, 2013 apostolic exhortation titled, Evangelii GaudiumHe actually calls ideologies and the oppression of persons they cause “a new tyranny.”

A PDF word search of Evangelii Gaudium reveals that the word capitalism isn’t even in the document.  American media reports have said, “Pope Francis attacked unfettered capitalism as a new tyranny.”  The Pope references tyranny but, what he calls “a new tyranny” are the resulting oppressions of what he calls “ideologies,” not capitalism.  Therefore, the often repeated media line mentioned above does not exist in fact or by inference in Evangelii Gaudium as reported.  Actually, the line was the creation of Reuters journalist, Naomi O’Leary on November 26, 2013.

Below is the excerpt from Evangelii Gaudium where the Pope uses the term “a new tyranny.”  The words in red help to explain what the Pope means by tyranny (the use of quotations, parenthesis and bolding of words below is ours.):

56. While the earnings of a minority are growing exponentially, so too is the “gap” separating the majority from the prosperity enjoyed by those happy few. This “imbalance” is the result of “ideologies” which defend the absolute autonomy of the marketplace and financial speculation. Consequently, they” (the ideologies) reject the right of states, charged with vigilance for the common good, to exercise any form of control.  A new tyranny” is thus born, invisible and often virtual, which unilaterally and relentlessly imposes its own laws and rules. Debt and the accumulation of interest also make it difficult for countries to realize the potential of their own economies and keep citizens from enjoying their real purchasing power. To all this we can add widespread corruption and self-serving tax evasion, which have taken on worldwide dimensions. The thirst for power and possessions knows no limits. In this system, which tends to devour everything which stands in the way of increased profits, whatever is fragile, like the environment, is defenseless before the interests of a deified market, which become the only rule.

Note:  Above, “(the ideologies)” was inserted by the writer of this article to define what is meant by “they.”

After reading the above excerpt with assisting quotations, parenthesis and bolding, it demonstrates that the “gap” separating persons from prosperity is the “imbalance” caused by the “ideologies” that “they” (the ideologies) create; “a new tyranny” (an ideology that even rejects the fair and just regulation of the marketplace so it can continue to oppress persons with its unjust laws and rules.)  So again, what is really meant by “a new tyranny” is ideologies and the oppression of persons they cause…  Read the rest of this article from Catholics for America and share it by Clicking HERE.
