The socialist community organization known as the Oklahoma Sponsoring Committee (OSC) is trying to influence the outcome of the Oklahoma City School Board race in district 4, next Tuesday February 14th.
OSC, which is an affiliate of Saul Alinsky’s Industrial Areas Foundation (IAF) has been removed by pastors of nine Catholic churches in the Archdiocese of Oklahoma City due to inconsistencies with Catholic Social Teaching. The OSC falsely claims on their website, “IAF organizations always promote the common good and never advocate initiatives or strategies that conflict with Catholic Social Teaching.” They also describe Alinsky in a positive light, which is inconsistent with his words, actions and Catholic Social Teaching.
Below are four links that will show in part, why the OSC was removed from the churches, using Alinsky’s own words and then countered with the Catechism of the Catholic Church:
- Moral relativism (click here)
- Manipulation (click here)
- Deception (click here)
- Ridicule (click here)
Citizens and voters surely do not want such a group involved in their school board race. But, they are largely involved.
This Sunday February 12th the OSC will hold their founding convention. At this convention they will re-brand themselves as Voices Organized in Civic Engagement (V.O.I.C.E.) The convention will also hold a candidate forum where two of the three school board candidates will be present and give credibility and support to OSC/VOICE’s ideas. Those candidates are Laura Massenat and Patrick Gaines.
The candidate who will not be present is Crystal Hodges. Crystal knows what the OSC/VOICE is about because she is my wife. She has seen and heard the division that OSC/VOICE has caused in our Catholic churches and like me she wants it to stop. We know that they have manipulated Catholic social teaching and we will not let their ideas near our own children. We will not let their ideas near Oklahoma City school children if we can help it. Fortunately, we have that opportunity.
I write this not because my wife is running for school board, but because I already work to defend the Church from socialist community organizations. I will not fail my Church and I will not fail my community. If I did not inform the public about the OSC/VOICE’s attempt to influence the school board race, I would have failed the Oklahoma City community in which we live.
These organizers are our brothers and sisters. Treat them with kindness. However, their errors must be met with a constant, courageous defense.
